The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has published the "Implementation Plan for Urban Development along the Tama Urban Monorail Extension." The plan outlines the future vision and specific urban development projects for communities along the extension route (Kamikitadai to Hakonegasaki), covering areas such as childcare, tourism, industry, energy, infrastructure, and land use, ahead of the expected commencement of operations in the mid-2030s.
Our representative, Yuta Hirayama, served as a committee member of the review committee (chaired by Professor Hideki Koizumi, The University of Tokyo) in his capacity as Visiting Associate Professor at Nagoya University. During the committee's deliberations, he advocated for expanding the role of the monorail beyond its conventional function as a mode of transport, proposing that stations and related infrastructure serve as community hubs that foster local initiative and entrepreneurship including startup promotion, contribute to smart city implementation, and support area-wide energy management — leveraging technological advances anticipated by the time of the line's opening.
